Can I pick up a cake today?
We do not make cakes the same day as ordered. For most cakes, we ask you call at least one to two weeks in advance, as we spend just as much time on birthday cakes as we do wedding cakes.
For wedding cakes, it is important to secure your date with us as soon the venue is set! We prefer at least 6-8 months notice, but please call or email us for our availability as certain dates book up quickly.
When can I schedule a tasting?
We schedule wedding cake tastings by appointment on Wednesdays10am to 6pm. There is a $25 charge for a tasting consultation. During the meeting, we will discuss the design of your cake, so please bring any pictures, invitations, etc, that may help us come up with something perfect & unique for your event.
Please arrive on time. Tastings last 1 hour and we ask that you arrive on time to ensure that you are allotted your full hour. Appointments are often booked back-to-back and we only wait for 15 MINUTES past the scheduled appointment time before you will need to reschedule. We require a minimum 24 hours cancellation notice for tastings, otherwise your card will be charged $25 for the cost of the missed appointment.
How much do your cakes cost?
We suggest starting your budget at $6-$7 per serving. Prices for a Blue Note Bakery custom designed cake vary based on flavor, number of servings and complexity of design. We will gladly quote a price for any cake once we discuss the custom design details with you.
Do you make sculpted cakes?
Yes, we do! We love making sculpted cakes. Pricing starts around $300. Price is based on complexity of design & flavor choice.
Do you do Birthday Cakes, Groom's Cakes or other Event Cakes?
We do cakes for any occasion. We strongly suggest ordering your celebration cake as early as possible, as we also design cakes for weddings, which are usually booked well in advance, and we need to give all orders the same amount of attention.
Do you make your cakes from scratch?
We make everything in house. We have been developing our formulas over the past 20+ years. Our chocolate cake & South Austin cake were developed in Angi’s parent’s kitchen after school in the 1990’s. Our chocolate cake won Grand Champion in the 1990 Montgomery County Fair & was auctioned off for almost $900!
Are your cakes made fresh or frozen?
Fresh, fresh, fresh! Everything we make is made to order. This is why we need plenty of notice to ensure the freshest cake.
Do you make cakes for people with specific allergies or dietary needs ?
All of our cake flavors can be made gluten-free. If there is a severe allergy, please be aware that we work in a kitchen that has flour & nuts being used in other orders. Please inform us about your requirements before ordering a cake. At this time we DO NOT make vegan or Dairy free cakes.
When can I pick up my cake?
Our shop hours are 10am to 4pm Tuesday- Saturday. Please arrive at your requested time, as we make sure our orders are completed at the scheduled time to ensure freshness & quality. Our cake studio is located at 4201 South Congress, Ste 101.
What are my payment options?
We accept Cash, check & all major credit cards. Checks may be made payable to Blue Note Bakery. We must have a credit card to book all phone or email orders. Pick up order's balance can be paid upon arrival.
What is your payment policy for wedding cakes?
We require a 50% retainer once we have secured the date and design of the cake. Payment-in-full is due 2 weeks prior to the delivery date.

What is Fondant?
Fondant is a sugar paste that is most often used with wedding cakes. It can be rolled out and placed over a cake that has already been frosted with buttercream creating a porcelain like finish that can be tinted to match any bride's color palette or left in its natural eggshell white. We make our Amazing, Handmade Honey Rum Fondant in house using natural ingredients. It tastes like no fondant you have ever tried. Don't fear the Fondant!
What is Ganache?
Ganache is a mixture of chocolate and heavy cream used as a filling or a frosting. Most often, ganache is poured over a cake to create a perfectly shiny and flawless finish.
What is Gum Paste?
Gum Paste is a pliable mixture that can be used to shape flowers, figures, and all kinds of fancy shapes. Gum Paste decorations are edible; however, they are seldom eaten.
