Groom’s Cakes
The Groom’s Cake has traditionally been known as a “southern thing”. We are trying to break that tradition. The groom usually gets no say in most of the wedding festivities. He gets told to show up & look good for his gal. Now there is ONE thing he can put his style on…..the Groom’s cake!
A bit of groom’s cake history:
This style of cake has been around since the middle ages. It was usually dark and solid and much smaller in comparison to the white, tiered wedding cake. It was served at the reception beside the wedding cake, making a wonderful contrast in color, shape, and flavor. It is said that if a single guest puts a piece of the groom's cake under their pillow, they will dream of their future marriage partner. There are many fun things to do with this type of cake. Today's groom's cake is usually based on a hobby or a special place that the couple has met. There are many ways to present a groom's cake from a sheet with chocolate dipped strawberries to a three dimensional figure made entirely of cake (A Blue Note favorite). The groom's cake can also be served at the rehearsal dinner. It is a great way to include your groom in making a decision about the wedding by including him in picking out this cake. We recommend doing about 50-75% of your guarantee when figuring out how big of a cake you want. Most people seem to like a little of both cakes. |
